The 91st Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscar A wards, were conferred in different categories at a splendid and star-studded award ceremony in Los Angeles, the USA on February 24, 2019.
Peter Farrelly’s ‘Green Book’ emerged the big winner of the prestigious Oscar awards this year, by sweeping three honours including the top Oscar for Best Picture. ‘Green Book’ is a classical portrayal of the real-life friendship of African-American pianist Don Shirley and his white driver cum bodyguard Tony Vallelonga. ‘Green Book’ also won the Oscar in ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category which went to Mahershala Ali and in ‘Best Original Screenplay’ category. Rami Malek took away the Best Actor Oscar for his role in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Olivia Colman won the Oscar in the Best Actress category for her role in ‘The Favourite’ as Queen Anne. US-Maxican movie Roma was honoured with the Best Foreign Language Film. Period. End of Sentence, an Indian short movie based on the story of a sanitary pad-making unit of Kathikhera village in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh won the Oscar in Best Documentary (short film) category. Its filmmakers Rayka Zehtabchi and Melissa Berton successfully presented different aspects of a subject like woman periods and social views related to it in a very realistic but touchy style.
