Tamil Nadu Tops in Good Governance Index 2019

Tamil Nadu has secured top position in the Good Governance Index (GGI) 2019 in the category of big states, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka on second and third spots respectively. Chhattisgarh got the 4th position while Andhra Pradesh was 5th, Gujarat 6th, Haryana 7th, Kerala 8th, Madhya Pradesh 9th and West Bengal at the 10th place. The GGI 2019 was launched by the Union Government on December 25, 2019.

In the category of North-East and Hill States, Himachal Pradesh got the first spot, followed by Uttarakhand, Tripura, Mizoram, Sikkim, Assam, the then Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. In the category of Union Territories, Puducherry has got first place, followed by Delhi, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep.

In the category of agricultural and related areas, Madhya Pradesh has topped in the Index, followed by Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh on second and third places respectively. In the category of Commerce and Industry, Jharkhand has ‘secured the top spot among bigger states, Uttarakhand has got the top position among North-Eastern and Hill States while Delhi has got the first place among Union Territories.

The GGI, developed by the Union Ministry of Personnel, maps the good governance in the states in 10 areas on the basis is of 50 indicators.
