Prithvi Narayan Shah was the first king of Nepal. Till 1768, modern-day Nepal comprises various small kingdoms, among which Shah Kings continued to rule in a few of them. The King of Nepal referred to as the Mahārājādhirāja or King of Kings. It can also be translated as "Sovereign Emperor". He was Nepal's chief of state and monarch from 1768 to 2008. He governed as the head of the Nepalese monarchy–Shah Dynasty. The empire was founded in 1768 and was ended on 28 May 2008 by the 1st Constituent Assembly. The subnational empires in Mustang, Bajhang, Salyan and Jajarkot were also ended in October.
