The Champaran Movement for indigo cultivators in 1917 was the first Movement started by Mahatma Gandhi in Champaran district of Bihar. The Non-cooperation Movement (Asahayog Andolan) was the major event in the Indian struggle for freedom after the First War of Independence in 1857. This Movement started in 1920 and lasted through 1922. This Movement is considered as first Mass Movement led by Gandhiji. The Salt Satyagraha started on March 12, 1930. On 8th August, 1942, Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement for freedom from the British rule in Mumbai (then Bombay).
