The Indian Association was founded by Surendranath Banerjee with the cooperation of Anand Mohan Bose in Calcutta, on 26 July 1876. This was the most significant political association among all contemporaries nationalist organisations prior to Indian National Congress. This Association opposed Elbert bill on the dispute as lowering the age limit for civil service examination. Indian Association had preferred middle class than landlords.
