The special feature about Indigo Movement was that intellectuals also played an active role in this movement and launched a strong campaign in support of struggling farmers. The indigo revolt was a peasant Movement and subsequent uprising of indigo farmers against the indigo planters that arose in Bengal in 1859. Girish Chandra Mukherjee was the editor of ‘Hindu Patriot’ in first two years (1853-55) He-also worked for the Neil Movement Harish Chandra Ghosh became its editor in 1855. He bravely helped farmers exploited by orchard owners. In 1861 Christo Das became an editor. He was adorer of British governance and formulated British liberalism. Hindu Patriot started representing interests of high-class Bengali land owners in his influence.
