Jotira Govindrao formed the ‘Satya Shodhak Samaj’ with himself as its first president. The main objective of the organization was to liberate the Shudras and Ati Shudras and to prevent their exploitation by Arya-Brahmins. It was an anti-caste Movement in Maharashtra. Jyotibha Phule also established Satyashodhak Samaj and Savitribai became head of women section who worked for lower caste girls. Deenbandhu played an important role in Satya Shodak Samaj in spreading the Movement to the remotest part of Maharashtra.
