Lake Chilika is one of the largest wintering ground for the migratory waterfowl in India. Lake chilika is the largest coastal lagoon or brackish water lake in India. It is located at mouth of Daya river in Odisha. It hosts nearly one million birds with 97 species being intercontinental migratory in nature during the winter season. It was the first water body in India to be designated as wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention in 1981.
