Quṭb al-Dīn Aibak was the first ruler of Delhi Sultanate. Slave Dynasty remain from 1206 to 1290. This dynasty was started by Quṭb al-Dīn Aibak. He was a slave of the Muslim general and later sultan Muḥammad of Ghūr. Quṭb al-Dīn had been among Muḥammad’s most faithful Turkish officers and had overseen his master’s Indian conquests. When Muḥammad was killed in 1206, Quṭb al-Dīn Aibak took power in Lahore. He held his position in a seesawing war with an opponent Slave ruler, Tāj al-Dīn Yildoiz. He died in 1210 as a result of a polo accident and his kingdom passed to Iltutmish (his son-in-law).
