Bhanu Athaiya was first Indian to win an Oscar Award in 1983. He was won this award for designing the costumes for Richard Attenborough's Gandhi. Indian musician A.R. Rahman has also been nominated for 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire, for which he won two Oscars, has made it to the list for three of his films consisting of Hollywood movies The Hundred-Foot Journey and Million Dollar Arm and Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan.
