Rajkumari Amrit Kaur was the first health minister of India. She served for ten years in the capacity. Her lifespan was from 2 February 1889 to 6 February 1964. She was a prominent Gandhian, a freedom fighter and a social worker. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. Amrit Kaur was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh India. She and her seven brothers were the eight children of Raja Harnam Singh. Rājā Harnam Singh was a member of the princely family of Kapurthala State in the Punjab region. Kaur had her early education in Sherborne School For Girls in Dorset, England.
