Maulana Sayyid Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al-Hussaini Azad (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad) was the first education minister of independent India. His life span was from 11 November 1888 to 22 February 1958. He was an Indian scholar and the senior Muslim leader of the Indian National Congress at the time of Indian independence movement. He is often remembered as Maulana Azad; the word Maulana is an honorific meaning 'Our Master'.
