Maulavi Ahmadullah Shah was the bitterest enemy of Britishers. He led 1857 revolt in Faizabad. He was basically from Arkat (Tamilnadu) but later he resided in Faizabad. The British considered him a worthy enemy and a great warrior in following words “as a man of great abilities of undaunted courage, of stem determination and by far the best soldiers among the rebels”. The British government announced a reward of Rs. 50000 for his arrest.
