Shishir Kumar founded ‘Amrit Bazar Patrika’ in 1868 in Kolkata. It was primarily published in the Bengali language. In 1878 it was converted to English to avoid the Native Language Press Act. Girishchandra Ghosh started publishing ‘Bengali’ in 1862 which was overtaken by S.N. Banerjee in 1879. ‘Hindu Patriot’ was also started by Girishchandra Ghosh.
