The Indian Slavery Act V of 1843, made slavery illegal in India during the tenure of Governor-General Lord Ellen Borough. A clause in the Charter of 1833, asked to end slavery at the earliest. Finally, in 1843, slavery was declared illegal all over the India, and all the slaves were freed without giving any compensation to the owners.
