The word Adivasi was used for the first time to refer the tribal people by Amritlal Vithaldas Thakkar, popularly known as Thakkar Bapa. He was a loyal member of Servants of India Society and advocated the rights of untouchables and tribals. Thakkar Bappa was deeply influenced by the reform measures advocated by Gandhi.
