There are 29 states and seven union territories in India. All the states and two union territories (Puducherry and the National Capital Territory of Delhi) of India have an elected form of government and legislatures. A Chief Minister governs them. Chief Minister is elected for a tenure of five years. The Central government governs rest union territories.
