The nitrate is absorbed by plants from decomposed organism and is transported to the leaves. In leaves, it is reduced to form ammonia that finally forms the amine group of amino acids it is called nitrification. Denitrifying bacteria are the agents of this process. These bacteria use nitrate instead of oxygen when obtaining energy, releasing nitrogen gas to the atmosphere.
