ISRO Launches Programme to Help Students Explore Space

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on February 16, 2019 launched a special programme for school children across the country called ‘Young Scientist Programme’ to attract the younger generation towards space exploration. The programme, which is in tune with the government’s ‘Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’ vision, will impart basic knowledge about space technology, space science and space applications.

The nearly two-week programme will be held in the summer and include talks, where eminent scientists will share their experience with the kids, and lab visits. Three students each from every State and Union Territory will be selected after covering the CBSE, ICSE and state syllabus. Students studying in Class 9 are eligible to participate.

ISRO has approached chief secretaries of various states and administrators of Union Territories to arrange for the selection of students based on academic performance and extra-curricular activities. Those from rural areas will be given special weightage.
