Acharya Vinoba Bhave on April 18, 1951 started the Bhoodan Movement from Pochampalli in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh. It was an attempt at land reform and institutional change in agriculture. Jaya Prakash Narayan, leaving active politics joined Bhoodan Movement in 1953. By the endof1955, the Bhoodan Movement turned as Gramdan. The Gramdan Movement was started in Orissa and it was quite successful there.
