Former IAS officer Anil Baijal is all set to be appointed as next Lieutenant Governor of Delhi as President Pranab Mukherjee gave his approval on 28 December. The post fell vacant last week after the abrupt resignation of Najeeb Jung.
Mr. Baijal, a 1969 batch IAS officer of U.T cadre, served as Home Secretary
under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He is currently associated with the
Vivekananda International Foundation.
Baijal had been a member of the executive council of the Vivekananda
International Foundation, a New Delhi-based thinktank that had many of its
fellows appointed to senior positions in the Narendra Modi government.
Baijal was the CMD of Air India during the hijack of IC 814 wherein NSA Ajit
Doval as part of the Intelligence Bureau had played an important role in the
negotiations with the terrorists who had demanded release of Jaish-e-Mohammad
chief Masood Azhar in order to release the passengers of the plane.
